Elephant and Castle Print

This is Elephant and Castle in South East London. This station is a favourite of Ben’s as it is home to a wonderful vertical garden. If you look closely you’ll notice that the doorman at the entrance to the tube station is letting through a very popular, local dog who is very well known to the doormen.

You may be wondering why this station and region has such a funny name, well you don’t have to look too far for the answer – if you look at the top right of the photograph you’ll see South London Castle in the distance, and at the bottom is the very elephant that inspired the name. This elephant is thought to be over 200 years old and has a very distinctive ‘yaaaaas’ type trumpet call.

A child struggles to reach the button for the traffic light, as his shoe-less father discusses last night’s controversial snooker result. Above the child you’ll notice that the new green men that are meant to be regulating the traffic system, have just finished their shift. The green men that are meant to be taking over are not yet here and so this particular road will be chaos until they arrive.

If you look closely behind the letter N, you’ll see a lady dressed in angel wings looking out on her balcony, this is inspired by Juliet in Baz Lurhman’s adaption of Romeo & Juliet.

The graffiti at the bottom right is paying homage to the areas postcode.
